Design Intent: Conceived as an icon for the Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences, McClelland Park showcases multicultural diversity as a welcoming entry point for families, business and community members, faculty and students. The showplace of the project is its "family plaza", a civic living room with shade and ample space for gathering. Dedicated to honoring children and families, and the study of their relationships, the plaza forms an oasis for informal gatherings, study groups and a play area for children using services or involved in research. Inside, classrooms and administrative areas adjoin faculty and research spaces. The building's innovative design anchors the entry to the modern Science Concourse while respecting the historic core of the campus.
